Nettie M. Brooks, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Simla after 95 wonderful years.

Nettie’s life began in the small coal town of Morley, Colorado on December 11, 1923 and she grew up in Trinidad, Colorado with her two brothers and four sisters. They were a happy Italian family, sharing the good and bad times, knowing always they were loved by mama and papa.

In high school, she met the love of her life-Bernal Brooks. They married after his return home from serving in the Marines during World War II. She raised three wonderful boys: Bill, Wesley and Robert.  She lived in Trinidad until 1961 when they moved to Colorado Springs.  She lived in the Springs for over 50 years before becoming a “country girl” and moving out to the eastern plains to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kit Brooks.

Nettie welcomed everyone to her home, always insisting they stay for dinner.  She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; playing with them, taking them places and, of course, feeding them.

Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Bernal; parents: Candido and Anna; siblings: Lucy, August, Sarah, Dorothy, Liz and Nick; brothers-in-law: Tony Franza, Alec Ray, and William Fatur; son, Robert and grandson, Christopher.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Joe Dekleva; sisters-in-law: Beverly and Mary Guadagnoli; sons: Bill (Kit) and Wes (Elaine); daughter-in-law, Chris; grandchildren: Fr. Kirk Slattery, Bobbie Jo Reny (Robert), Jodi Slattery, Annie Dewald (Brad), Jason Brooks, Mallory Brooks, Shelby Brooks, Warner Fisk; and great grandchildren: Nathan Reny, Luke Reny, Razie Dewald, Brady Dewald and Kennedy Dewald.
