Norma Margaret Gimbrone, age 84 years, was called to heaven on December 19, 2020. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for more than 25 years, and was formerly a resident of Buffalo, New York and Spring, Texas, outside of Houston. Before retirement, Norma worked as a clerk in the NICU at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Norma was born on October 22, 1936 to Norman and Mildred Smith. On January 26, 1969, she married George Gimbrone in Buffalo, New York.

Norma was a beautiful, classy lady who loved pretty dresses and jewelry.  She was fond of accumulating a variety of keepsakes, a hobby that grew out of her collection of recyclable tin during World War II. Her collection of dolls, Barbies, teacups, miniature statues and virtually anything purple lives on in the homes of her loved ones. The search for special mementos carried on with her grandkids: dalmatians, pigs, and Happy Meal toys. She also enjoyed crafting everything from pouring and painting beautiful ceramics, crocheting to scrapbooking. Norma was well known for her delicious sugar cookies and her fabulously decorated cakes. A tradition of baking that is carried on throughout the family.  One of her grandkids’ favorite pastimes was “Grandma impressions” which never failed to elicit a squawk of outrage and laughter. She loved to spoil her grandkids, buying innumerable boxes of cereal with toys (Gotta collect them all!) and allowing them to adorn her with bows and make up to their hearts’ content. Norma was an active member of her church in Texas and the senior center community in Colorado Springs.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Gimbrone, her son, James Rzemek, and her grandson, Griffin Rucker. She is survived by her children: Deborah Fideldy, John Gimbrone, Rebecca Gimbrone, and Joseph Rzemek. Grandchildren also survive her: Alyse Rzemek, Jennifer Lehman, Rachel Lehman, Keith Snipe, Rory Rucker, Clarissa Gimbrone, Arabella Gimbrone, and Corianna Gimbrone. Norma was the loving great-grandmother of Michael Wright, Giana Wright, Nolan Lehman, Faith Lehman, Lily Lehman, Aidan Lehman with another on the way.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 30th from 1:00-3:00 with services following at 3:00 at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs. For virtual service please contact Alyse Rzemek at arzemek@yahoo.com by Tuesday December 29th.
