Preston Charles White – August 11, 2025

Preston Charles White, age 92, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born on July 28, 1933, in Norfolk, Virginia to Charles White and Luvenia Simmons.

After graduating from high school, at only the age of 18, he enlisted in the military with the United States Air Force on January 16, 1952, in Richmond, Virginia. Preston’s start was as a support specialist and through his commitment to the military he soon became a logistics planner. He ended his work as a logistics plans superintendent and supply management superintendent. Preston served for almost 27 years before honorably retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant on September 30, 1978, in Colorado Springs, Colorado at Peterson Air Force Base.

It was during his time in the military that he met his wife, Mabel Mercedes (Aitcheson) White, who sadly passed away on September 28, 2017.

A visitation will be held in honor of Preston at 2:00PM, followed by a funeral service with military honors at 3:00PM on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.

Met him, and his nice mother, in the late ’80s–through my boss, who was a friend of “PC” (which was how he wanted to be addressed and, thus, what I always knew him as). He was a Colorado Springs City Council member in those days and had a firebrand kind of approach that, from warmth and no nonsense, garnered respect and, artfully, kept people a) accountable; and b) engaged. That was a great skill he had.

On rare occasion these decades later, his name would pop into my head and I would wonder how he was doing. Fast forward to yesterday, I was talking to someone who mentioned that Preston White passed away. I knew it had to be PC (and from hearing his actual first name is how I was able to end up here). Well, I couldn’t just stop by without a show of respect and gratitude for a man whom I didn’t know well, but well enough to look up to and to admire that he made it 92 years. A good, long run, PC! May you rest in peace!
