
Rajinder Kaur Badhesha peacefully passed away on January 6, 2026. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, cousin, and community builder whose life reflected strength, sacrifice, and deep care for others.
Rajinder was born in the village of Dakha in the Ludhiana District of Punjab, India. As the eldest daughter in her family, she carried responsibility early in life and became the first woman in her family to receive an education. She served as a role model for much of her family and village. She married Surinder Singh Badhesha and immigrated to the United States. She first lived in California before moving to Queens, New York City, where her two children were born and where she became deeply involved in community organizing. In 1993, she moved with her family to Colorado Springs, where she helped establish the city’s first Sikh congregation and was a founding member of its Gurdwara.
For twenty-six years, Rajinder and her husband owned and operated Village 7 Liquor, a small family business. Known for her sharp intellect, generosity, and fierce protection of women and children, her home was always open to those in need of support, shelter, or a warm meal.
Rajinder was a lifelong caretaker who dedicated herself to her family and community. She found great joy in becoming a grandmother and was overjoyed to meet her granddaughter shortly before her passing. She is reunited in rest with her husband and leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and quiet leadership that will continue through all those she cared for and inspired.
Rajinder is survived by her son Deep Singh; daughter-in-law Harshwinder Kaur; daughter Kirnpreet Kaur; son-in-law Dishpal Singh; grandson Yuvraj Singh; granddaughter Gurnaaz Kaur; granddaughter Umeed Kaur; brothers Gurnam Singh and Kesar Singh; sisters Davinder Kaur, Harvinder Kaur, and Harjit Kaur; mother Surjit Kaur. Rajinder is preceded in death by her husband, Surinder Singh and father Mukand Singh.
