Ray Trujillo – September 5, 2025

Ray Trujillo, age 85, passed away on September 5, 2025. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for more than a decade and was formerly a resident of Baudette, MN. He was retired for more than 30 years from Jefferson County Public Schools. Ray had Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease but never let that stop him from providing for his family. He was a hard worker and often did home improvement projects himself.

Ray was born on September 20, 1939, to Paul and Mary (Sandoval) Trujillo in Trinidad, CO. He grew up in Trinidad, Fountain, and Colorado Springs and spent much of his adult life in the Denver Metro area.

Ray loved music, especially 50’s and 60’s songs. He had an amazing voice and loved singing karaoke, where he often wowed the crowd. He instilled this love of music in his children who can remember him singing the oldies to them. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Colorado teams. He loved watching the Avalanche and Nuggets and had recently become a fan of women’s soccer. When he was younger Ray enjoyed camping and fishing and often took his then wife (Darlene) and Brittani on weekend getaways to camp and fish.

He is survived by his children: Brittani Trujillo, Dawn Atkins, and Dean Dowda; his siblings: Lucille (Lou) Buswell, Julie Trujillo, Pauline Phillips, and Tim Trujillo; and multiple nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Trujillo; siblings Leo Trujillo, Marie Dakan, Joe Trujillo, Mike Trujillo, Alfred Trujillo, and Barb Roybal; grandsons Marcel Dowda and Chance Atkins; ex-wife Darlene Trujillo, and his partner Charla M. Olson.

Ray’s family will hold a private celebration in his honor on September 19, 2025.

Memorials in Ray’s name may be made to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association – Accelerating Research / Empowering Patients.

I will not be able to attend The service today, but I wanted to tell you that I am so sorry for your loss! And my prayers are with you during this time. I took Ray to a lot of of his doctor appointments, and while doing so he showed me a lot of the places around south western Colorado Springs, where he grew up, went to school, and worked. He taught me a lot about the history of that area as well. He also helped me learn to navigate that area. I will miss him!
