Richard “Dick” Sherman Horne passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Emeritus Senior Living. He was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1965.

He was born on May 2, 1930 in Sabraton, West Virginia to Sherman and Fannie Grace (Davis) Horne and grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia; graduating from Morgantown High School. He attended West Virginia University Music School as a violin major. He also served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Rantoul, Illinois; Wiesbaden, Germany; and South Korea. He married Leona Cheuvront, a cellist, in 1952 and together they had three children.

Dick was a member of the United States Air Force Band for 22 and ½ years playing French horn, bass drum, and as drum major and music copyist. He was Conductor of the Community Orchestra for several years in Colorado Springs and played violin for the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra for 30 years as well as arranging much of their music for Summer Symphony and the Christmas Ice Show. He also enjoyed teaching violin, French horn and trumpet.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; his children: David (wife Laura) Horne, Andrea (husband Dave) Wirt, and Shari (husband Marc) Allison; and three grandchildren: Alicia Allison, Benjamin Allison, and Hayley Horne. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Entombment will be at Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum.
