Rito MorenoRito Moreno, age 83, passed away on December 13, 2018.  He was a resident of Widefield for 45 years and was formerly a resident of Fresno, California.  He was a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant out of Fort Carson, CO, having served in the Vietnam War earning two bronze stars, and retired from Harrison School District 2 in Colorado Springs, CO.

Rito Moreno was born on August 6, 1935 to Ascencio Moreno and Refugia (Ruth) Garcia.  He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, but was raised in Abilene, Texas his first five years of life.

Rito was fond of electronics and traveling.  He loved to go on road trips to visit family.  He was a great cook and always cooked for his family on the major holidays.  In his younger years he repaired vehicles and televisions as a hobby and side job.  He was always there to help anyone in need.  He valued family greatly.  He graduated from Pikes Peak Community College with several degrees, one of which was in upholstery.  He served in the United States Army for over 20 years and retired in 1973, settling in Colorado.

He is survived by his wife, Antonia Tarango Moreno, and his children: Albert Apodaca, Adeline Lippincott, Linda Grogan and Rita Turner; his 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Apodaca; mother, Ruth Garcia; and grandmother, Eleanor Garcia.

A visitation/rosary will be held from 5-7pm on December 17, 2018 at Shrine of Remembrance.  A funeral and mass will be held at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church on December 18, 2018 at 11am with reception to follow and burial at Pikes Peak National Cemetery to include military honors.

The family wishes to extend a warm thank you and appreciation for all those who have reached out and traveled to attend the services.
