Robert D. “Bob” Hill – March 2, 2025

Robert D. “Bob” Hill departed this life March 2, 2025, aged 89, at Penrose Hospital with family and friends at his side.

Bob was born to Frances E. (nee Stubbs) and Hugh B. Hill in Pueblo, Colorado.   The young family returned to their roots and extended family in Nebraska shortly thereafter, where Bob grew to graduate from high school, ultimately going on to earn a B.S. and J.D. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. While there, he nurtured his lifelong Cornhusker fandom playing in the University Marching Band and started his six years of honorable service shared between the NE and KS Army-National Guard.  He returned to the Springs in the summers when he drove tour cars up the gravel Pikes Peak highway to share with visitors his ever-present love of the mountains, storytelling, history and meeting new people.

After marrying, he returned permanently to the Springs in 1969, initially working for the family business, Hill Oil, and later leaving to establish a law practice.  He continued to play the trumpet and instilled in his children the appreciation for music and the arts which he maintained throughout his life.  In his free time, he played in the Springs for organizations such as the New Horizons Bands, the Shriners Band, jazz bands and even a polka band, among others.  He was involved with several community organizations, having been a member of UNL alumni organizations, the Fine Arts Center, Kiwanis and the Al-Kaly Shrine at different periods in his life.  He was a member of the Colorado Bar for over 50 years.

As his health declined, he retired in 2019. Throughout the many health challenges encountered during the next 6 years, he met each with grace, bravery and faith.  Always interested in people, he stationed himself as the unofficial greeter wherever he resided.  He always enjoyed outings, on mini ‘road-trips’, meals or to performing arts events, continuing even as he spent his final year cared for lovingly by the Bear Creek Senior Living nursing staff.  He loved his family near and far, this area and its mountains, and life itself, living it as fully as possible to the very end.

Those who knew him will remember his quick Irish wit, interest in helping others, sparkling blue eyes and radiant smile, all of which will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wed., October 22, 2025 at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colo Spgs.
