Robert Dalton “Bob” Doverspike passed away on October 31, 2015 at the Life Care Center of Colorado Springs. He was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on January 21, 1926 to Ivan and Jean Doverspike (nee Jean Duncan). He was the youngest of three children, including his sister, Jean and his brother, Ivan. Soon after Bob was born the family returned to their home in Kittanning, Pennsylvania where Bob’s father later founded The Country Club Estates development.

Bob was a veteran with multiple service engagements that included the Navy, Air Force and regular Army, where he attained the rank of Captain. He had a distinguished military service record, including serving as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division while stationed in Germany in the 1950s. He married Athena Doverspike (nee Athena Georgouli) in 1953 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They had one son, Robert Duncan Doverspike who was born in 1954 while they were stationed at San Marcos, Texas. While they were in the Army, Bob arranged Athena’s lectures on the topic of Communism at many military-sponsored organizations. Athena had a well-known legacy of fighting Nazis and Communism in Greece in the 1940s, including surviving a communist concentration camp, which was liberated by the British. The family, including their beloved cat, “Seven Claw”, was transferred to Fort Carson, Colorado in 1962. Bob instantly fell in love with the western lore and heritage of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region and decided to establish roots in the area.

Bob is survived by his son, Robert (Ann) of New Jersey; three grandsons: Robert, James (Vera) and John Doverspike; sister in law, Judy Doverspike and his very dear friend and companion, Christine Moore of Widefield. Bob is also survived by many of his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister and his beloved wife, Athena, who passed away in 2004.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.
