Roberta Ann “Bert” Whelan, age 88, was united with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 16, 2025. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the past 25 years, and previously lived in Roseville, Minnesota.

Born on December 17, 1936, in Casey, Illinois, Roberta was the daughter of William and Marietta (Adams) Turner. She graduated from Casey-Westfield High School in 1955. Roberta worked as an Executive Secretary at 3M, where her organization, dedication, and professionalism left a lasting impression.

On January 4, 1986, she married the love of her life, Arvin Whelan, in Colorado Springs. Together they built a life grounded in faith, family, and unconditional love. Roberta was an active member of Woodmen Valley Chapel, where she served as an usher 20+ years and cherished her church family deeply.

Affectionately known as “Bert,” she was an avid reader who was rarely without a book or her Kindle. She found joy in gardening and took pride in her flowers. She also loved hiking and held a deep appreciation for the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

Roberta is survived by her devoted husband, Arvin Whelan; her daughter, Leigh Babler; her brother, Robert (Elaine) Turner; her stepchildren, Patrick Whelan and Pam (Jerry) Roberts; her grandchildren, Melanie (Ike) Costner, Dallas (Diane) Roberts, and Lacy Roberts; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Alexis, Allison, Emma, and Jacob. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard Turner; and her stepsons, Kerry Whelan, Michael Whelan, and Marty Whelan.

She also leaves behind a cherished church family and many dear friends whose love and support were a blessing to her and her loved ones.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her caregivers for their exceptional compassion and to the many friends from church who have offered unwavering support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Woodmen Valley Chapel – Rockrimmon Campus. A reception will follow the service.
