Rosa Iris Velazquez Perez, 78 years old, passed away peacefully at home on 29 July 2025 surrounded by family. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for the last 5 1/2 years, and was formerly a resident of Denver, CO. She worked several jobs from a seamstress to factory worker in her lifetime. She even wrote a book on her life, titled “Memories of a Rose.” Her last job was managing financial obligations of their family business, Izzy Express delivery service.
Rosa is originally from Humacao, Puerto Rico. She was born on 1 Jan 1947 to Maria D. Perez and Rafael Velazquez Moreno, also from Humacao, Puerto Rico. She was married for 53 years to Ismael Gonzalez Gomez.
Rosa had several hobbies…she loved cooking, gardening and crafts, especially crocheting. If you ever saw her sitting down, she was crocheting. She gifted several family members and friends with doilies, tablecloths, and bathroom sets. Rosa was always a kind person, always taking care of her family with a smile. She never complained, even though she was suffering with complications from Parkinson’s disease in her later years. She would light up a room with sunshine with her beautiful smile. She will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her husband, Ismael Gonzalez; and (5) children: Jose A. Perez, Maria de Lourdes Perez, Eliezer Perez, Samuel Perez, and Ismael A. Gonzalez; her siblings: Carmen N. Velazquez, Rafael Velazquez Perez, Angel M. Velazquez, and Rafael Velazquez Marquez; also, by her father Rafael Velazquez Moreno, who will be 102 years old this October.
A celebration of life will be held in her hometown of Humacao, Puerto Rico at a later date to be announced.
