Ruth Valdez, 84 years old, passed away on January 2, 2026. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 63 years.
She was born on February 23, 1941, in Chama, CO to Lazaro and Eva Vialpando. She was married to James Valdez from Los Fuertes, CO for 47 years before James passed away on June 16, 2009.
Ruth enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, and watching TV game shows; Wheel of Fortune was her favorite.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. She was also a member of the YMCA, where she used to enjoy the Arthritis Aquatic classes.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Valdez) Scroggins, Kenneth Scroggins (Lori’s husband), Jennifer Scroggins (granddaughter) and Connor Scroggins (grandson), and by her other daughter, Karen Valdez.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2009, and 2 sisters, Hellen Vialpando and Dorothy Foster, and a brother, Gilbert Vialpando.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Sacred Heart Church, 2021 W. Pikes Peak Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80904. Interment will be at 12:00pm at Fairview Cemetery, Colorado Springs, with a reception to follow at Sacred Heart Parish Center.
Memorials in Ruth’s name may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice.
