Sheila Diane Ponders
(Mom & Oma)

Sheila Diane Ponders passed away at her home in Widefield on Saturday, September 8, 2012. She courageously fought and lost her second battle with cancer. However, she was victorious in joining her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Ponders. She is also preceded in death by her beloved grandchild, Noah Badger. His death was the most painful experience of her life. She is survived by four children: Tony L. Perry, Melissa Lavelle Badger, Johnny Shane Perry, and James Clay Ponders. She is also survived by Lavelle’s husband, Scott, and their children: William, Leah, Hannah, Jesse, Shannon, and Gabriel. She is also survived by Johnny’s wife, Leeann, and their children: Chase and Trent. She is also survived by a brother, Wayne Jarrett, his wife, Angelena, and their child, Erin.

Mom’s complete focus in life was to be her best as a mother (Mom, Wife, and Grandmother (Oma)). Those who truly knew her were blessed. Although she had a very difficult childhood, she said her life began when she had her children. She was the first to say she wasn’t perfect, which is why she read Romans VIII throughout her life. However, she set the bar high by living her life with values, integrity, and an unswerving work ethic. No job was beneath her, and no one ever questioned her veracity. She gave the full measure of herself to God and her children. She had an unyielding faith, and despite a lifetime of physical, emotional, and circumstantial pain, the only prayer she said for herself was for “God’s will to be done.”

A visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Burial will follow the services and will be at Fairview Cemetery, 1000 South 26th Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904. A reception will then follow at the family’s home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
