SHIRLEY ROBERTSON
June 20, 1925 – October 30, 2016

Shirley Louise Robertson, 91, a Colorado Springs resident since 1965, passed away on October 30, 2016 in Colorado Springs at the Pikes Peak Hospice Inpatient Unit. Shirley was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 20, 1925 to Charles and Louise (Burgess) Snider. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robbie Robertson.

Shirley was the consummate military wife. Until his retirement from the Air Force in 1967, she followed her husband to his various Navy and Air Force assignments across the U.S. and overseas while raising their two sons. Square dancing became a big part of Shirley’s life in the 1970s and was enjoyed for over 20 years. She also became involved in the U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII organization, accompanying her husband to local, state, regional, and national meetings and events. They traveled extensively across the U.S., visiting every state in the union. Hawaii was her favorite. In recent years, she rarely missed the Pikes Peak Organ Society Sacklunch Serenades, loving the music of the 1940s played on the theatre organ at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium. She also loved sharing time with family and friends.

She is survived by her two loving sons: Darrell (Judi) of Temecula, California; Don (Susan) of Colorado Springs; and two grandsons, Scott and Jeff of Temecula, California.

The family would like to thank Dr. Spees and his staff for providing years of exceptional medical care, and the staff of Brookdale Monument Valley Park for furnishing a safe and comfortable home for the past four years. Lastly, thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Pikes Peak Hospice Inpatient Unit at Penrose Hospital for their compassionate care in Shirley’s final weeks.

A visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel and will be followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Private burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation (specifically the Inpatient Unit) 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
