Sophie Iantosca, age 97, passed away on March 10, 2021. She had recently moved to Colorado Springs, CO from Holiday, FL where she lived for 33 years and was formerly a resident of South Orange, NJ. She was a devoted employee of Western Electric, making electric parts for phones and switchboards, many of them for the military. She retired as a supervisor after more than 35 years of service.

Sophie was born on May 17, 1923 to Michael and Elvira Iantosca in South Orange, NJ. Although she never married or had children of her own, she was especially devoted to her nieces and nephews and their families. She is survived by her nieces: Carol (Michael) Dillingham, Fran (Robert) Morris, Elle Wainwright, and Gigi (Steve) Shupp, and her nephews: Jack (Regina Varga) Jacobi, Michael (Chutima) Iantosca, Bill Clarke, and Carmen (Kathie) Iantosca. She is also survived by 20 grand nieces and nephews and numerous great grand nieces and nephews.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents: Michael and Elvira Iantosca and her siblings and their spouses: John and Josephine (Iantosca) Jacobi, Carmen and Helen (Marcelli) Iantosca, and Michael and Lucille (Clarke) Iantosca.

Sophie was fond of reading biographies and, until she was 90 years old, enjoyed traveling in the US, Canada, and Europe. She was also an excellent cook who never wanted anyone to leave the table hungry; anyone who dropped by was always welcome at the table and there was always more than enough food for everyone.

Sophie’s life will be celebrated with a crypt-side prayer service on Friday, March 19 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home in Colorado Springs. A memorial mass will be celebrated in Colorado Springs in July.

Memorials in Sophie’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital; St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church, 4843 Mile Stretch Drive, Holiday, FL 34690; or another charity of the donor’s choice.
