Theresa Rose Perrier Duran, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, daughter, and sister, passed away on May 31, 2025. She had decided that it was time to go discuss with God how the Colorado Rockies were doing and to ensure that she had a front row seat for her grandson, Zach’s, ordination to the transitional diaconate as he continues to prepare for ordination to the Catholic priesthood.
Theresa was born on September 4, 1942, in the truck on the way to the hospital between Olpe and Emporia, Kansas. After growing up on the family farm outside of Olpe, she graduated from Sacred Heart College (now Kansas Newman) in Wichita, KS, with a degree in Home Economics.
Having fallen in love with Colorado on a senior sneak trip and also with a Colorado native, she moved to Colorado in 1964 and married Kenneth F. Duran of Denver, CO, at St. Anthony Catholic Church that same year. They made their home in Colorado Springs for all 60+ years of their marriage.
Theresa worked as a teacher, seamstress, and several positions in the financial and mortgage industries. Most importantly, she was a stay-at-home mom for a son and two daughters.
She enjoyed reading, square dancing, crafts such as embroidery and crocheting, and most especially traveling around the United States to experience its natural beauty and history. From Alaska to Maine to Hawaii to Washington, DC, to California and everywhere in between, she visited many, many states and the national parks, monuments, and sites along the way.
Theresa joins her parents, Ernest and Frances Perrier; her sister, Dorothea; and her niece, Mary, with Christ. Left behind to share memories of the wonderful food, especially desserts, she made and laughter she shared is her husband, Ken of Colorado Springs; son, Chris Duran of Colorado Springs; daughter, Michelle Selig (John) of Colorado Springs; daughter, Brenda Bizzell (Ed) of Wellington, CO; and her pride and joy, her grandchildren: Jerome Selig (Alexandra) of Washington, DC; Deacon Zachary Selig of the Diocese of Pueblo, CO; and Alexander Bizzell of Wellington, CO; as well as nephews: Bill, Jim, and Tom and their families; and many, many friends.
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, a Rosary will be recited at 10:30AM before an 11:00AM Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80905. A luncheon will be served at the church immediately after Mass. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you watch a Colorado Rockies game, eat a gooseberry or rhubarb pie, and/or make a donation in her memory to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo at https://www.cmzoo.org/support/ or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=header-btn-donate-now.
