William Hugh Shaffer, 84, passed away on November 27, 2020.  He was surrounded by numerous friends and family at St Francis hospital when he went home to his Heavenly Father.  William was a resident of Falcon, Colorado for nine years and was formerly a resident of Sun City, AZ. 

William was born in June of 1936 to John and Adele (Hagerty) Shaffer in Governors Island, NY.  In March of 1960, William married Frances Janette in Augusta, Georgia at Fort Gordon. William and Frances had four beautiful children during their marriage and lived in several beautiful places, including Germany.  William served a total of 21 years in the Armed Forces, 3 years in the US Navy and 18 years in the US Army.  William was a decorated Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm during his time in Vietnam.  William retired from The Army in 1975 relocating to Phoenix, AZ with his family.  Shortly after moving to Arizona, William attained his Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University in Elementary Education.  William went on to teach 4th grade at Buckeye Elementary in Buckeye, AZ. for 17 years, William retired from Teaching in 2003.  In 2012 William moved to Falcon, Colorado to live with his daughter and her children to recover from the debilitating effects caused by MRSA.  After winning his battle with MRSA, William was back to his usual self.  William lived another 9 full years in Colorado enjoying all the beauty that Colorado has to offer.

Bill loved the outdoors and spent much of his day in the garden.  When Bill wasn’t gardening due to weather, he enjoyed creating beautiful stained-glass pieces.  Bill also enjoyed house renovation, and had an appreciation for Disney memorabilia collecting hundreds of pieces.  

Bill is survived by his ex-wife, Frances, with whom he remained friends; his children: Victor, Roger, Charles and Elizabeth; 8 grand-children and 7 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father; his sisters, Barbara Haberly and Eileen Freels; and his son-in-law Daniel S. Hughes (Elizabeth).

A memorial service will be held at 10 A.M., June 19, 2021 at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.  Reverend Micah Bent will be officiating.
