Chief Master Sergeant Yancy C. Young, 93, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died May 20, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. He was retired from the United States Air Force. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a protestant. Masonic and military funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.
Chief Young was born December 3, 1920 at Adel, Cook County, Georgia to John and Virdie (Thomas) Young, who are deceased.
Chief Young had been a resident of Colorado Springs since March 1963. He was in the U.S. Army Air Force and Air Force from August 1942 to July 1973. He served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany during World War II. His service included Korea, Vietnam, and the Berlin Airlift. Peace time overseas duties were in Germany; Newfoundland and Alberta, Canada; and Greenland.
Chief Young was a First Sergeant for 23 of his 31 years of military service.
He was married August 24, 1946 in Rome, Italy to Marisa (Restuccia) Young who is deceased. He had a son, John Victor, who died March 14, 1986. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Miller; 3 granddaughters: Stephanie Quintana and Julie Ham of Colorado Springs, and Celeste Young of New Brunswick, Canada; 6 great-grandchildren: David Barnes, Daniel, Shalena, and Sylvia Quintana, Dillon and Sabrina Ham; and 4 great-great-grandchildren: Marisa and Madilyn Reyes, Anthony Quintana and Aalycia Martinez, all of Colorado Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews in Texas, Oklahoma and Florida. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
Chief Young was a member of El Paso Lodge No. 13 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Colorado Springs, Colorado Consistory of Denver, Memorial Lodge No. 2 AF and AM, and High Twelve Club No. 513 all of Colorado Springs. He was a lifelong member of The Retired Enlisted Association, the Disabled American Veterans, the Alzheimer’s Association, and a lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. Chief Young was a member of the Ent Federal Credit Union Board of Directors from 1964 to 1974, serving as First and Second Vice President.
He was raised and educated in the public schools of Orlando, Florida and always considered Orlando to be his home town. He and his family lived in Florida, Georgia, South Dakota, Colorado, Germany, Newfoundland and Alberta, Canada. Yancy and his wife traveled to England, France, Spain, Morocco, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Tahiti, China, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Greece, Israel, Mexico, Panama, Ireland, and many Central and South American countries.
