Alberto Gonzales, 81, passed away on May 25th.  He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 63 years where he worked for the phone company as a splicer for 26 years and was formerly a resident of Rocky Ford as a local farmer.

Alberto was born on December 26, 1940 to Quinto and Fedalina Herrera (Torres) in Maze, New Mexico. Albert moved around Colorado including Swink, Rocky Ford, and Colorado Springs.  Albert married his first wife Pauline and divorced after having 8 children. On December 31, 1980 he married Leslie (Haugen) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Albert was active in dart leagues for many years, enjoyed traveling to Cripple Creek with friends, and later in life found a new love of painting.

Albert is survived by 9 children: Arthur, Annita, Alberta, Mark, Carlos, Yolanda, Lisa, Kelly, Elaina; his siblings: Jose Herrera husband of Enedina, Dorothy Castro, Alfred Herrera, Frances Wilkerson wife of Bruce, Rosemary Billinger wife of Tony, Joseph Herrera husband of Betty; 27 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leslie Gonzales; parents, Fedalina and Quinto; brother, Tony; sister, Trini; and son, Albert Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd.  Scattering will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Rose Gardens.  A reception will be held following the scattering at 623 Stevens Avenue.
