Alicia McDonnell, 72, gained her Angel Wings on July 29, 2022.  She was resident of Colorado Springs for more than 50 years.  Alicia worked in education throughout most of her life, and served as a dedicated mother and friend to many.

Alicia was born on June 14, 1950 to Allan J. McDonnell and Alice McDonnell (Hatto).  She was divorced and never remarried.

Alicia was fond of her family, most especially her grandchildren.  Alicia was a natural born flirt, and enjoyed a good country dance with anyone who could keep up with her.  She had many great adventures with her sister, Hope, and always had great stories to tell.  Alicia loved to just go for a drive in the mountains, plan early Black Friday shopping trips, go to concerts with her children, and spend time with her friends.  Once she considered someone a friend, they were friends for life.

Alicia had an absolute love of animals, having many dogs, and even a few cats during her lifetime.  She cared for animals with the same enthusiasm she did her children.  She loved to watch birds from her kitchen table, and found purpose in her daily war with the squirrels, who also enjoyed her bird feeders.  While visiting North Carolina, she found a love of feeding sea gulls (and they found a love of her!).

Perhaps Alicia’s greatest love was for her grandchildren.  She never ceased to be proud of their accomplishments, and the amazing individuals they grew into.  She kept every piece of art, card, or gift she was ever given by her grandchildren, and Alicia’s refrigerator was covered in photographs of all of them.

Alicia is survived by her children, Dawn Jenks (Cory); Kellie Moran (Margaret); and Dan Moran (Ashley).  Her favorites might have been her grandchildren including: Travis, Moranna, and Colton (Jenks); Riley (Zook-Moran); and Jordan, Raigyn, McKenna, Gracie, and Ryan (Moran).  Alicia was preceded in death by her sister, Mary “Hope” Knight, and brothers Allan “Barry” and Michael McDonnell, parents Allan and Alice McDonnell, aunts Margaret Hatto and Agnes McDonnell, and her granddaughter, Gracie Moran.   It is no doubt she was welcomed in Heaven by many furry creatures she adopted (or who adopted her) over her time on this Earth.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO.   Services will be held in the “America the Beautiful” Chapel.  Scattering of Alicia’s ashes will take place at a later date.  The service will be live streamed, as well as recorded.

Alicia’s family hopes you will join them in sharing your memories of her.

If lieu of formal memorials, please consider a donation to Go Team Therapy Dogs (Goteamdogs.org), or the American Lung Association (lung.org).
