Barbara (Frase/Brown) Fisher, age 93, passed away on May 24, 2023. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 57 years and was formerly a resident of Larkspur, Colorado. She was a retired school bus driver who was recognized as Outstanding Educational Support Personnel by Colorado Springs School District 11 and received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Colorado Department of Education.

Barbara Lou Frase was born on February 22, 1930, to Thomas and Vera (Law) Frase near Kensington, Kansas. Barbara attended Colorado Springs Bible School, where she met Donald P. Brown, to whom she was married on August 20, 1948. Their marriage continued until Don’s passing in 1994, during which time she bore three children.

Barbara and Don were ordained Ministers of Music in the Wesleyan Church, a mission for which they were widely known and admired. Barbara’s surviving ministry included playing various keyboard instruments at Roswell Community Church and at MacKenzie Assisted Living. Just days before passing, she provided piano accompaniment to choristers who recalled her decades of faithful and generous service.

Barbara was also known for her devotion to young people in particular. That was apparent in her years of employment as a school bus driver, a job for which she often declared her love. Additionally, she enjoyed hosting the church youth group and traveling emissaries from Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

In 1999, Barbara married Robert H. “Bob” Fisher, growing her family circle to include Bob’s son Randy and daughter, Dixie as well as his granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Barbara and Bob spent 18 years together until his passing in 2017.

Barbara is survived by her children: Donna Skelly (Roger), Paul, Stephen (Jan); her sisters: Maxine Frank (Alvin), Verneta Weir (Lawrence), Jean Dixon (Joe); her grandchildren: Ryan Skelly (Sarah), Tricia Asp, Ryker Brown (Lindsey); her great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Campbell, Griffin, Emerson, Walker, Kinley, Maddax, Bentley; her step-children: Randy (Dee), Dixie (Jim); step-granddaughters: Stephanie (Chris), Andrea (Don); and step-great-grandchildren: Ashleigh (Austin), Dalton, Wyatt, Emily.

She was preceded in death by parents: Thomas and Vera; brothers: Charles and Herschel; and infant sister, Velma June.

An open casket visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Shrine of Remembrance, “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life.
