One day shy of his 63rd wedding anniversary, Charles “Charlie” F. Johnson passed away Friday, March 4th, 2022 at the age of 85 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Charlie was born March 31st, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa. His father, Charles E. Johnson, and mother, Geraldine B. Johnson, preceded him in death.

Charlie was a veteran of the United States Army. After graduating from Loras College in 1961, Charlie began his career in finance as a controller at W.R. Grace and Company. He went on to become V.P. of Finance at Martin Marietta Corporation. In 1981, Charlie fulfilled his dream of owning a business, moved his family to Colorado Springs and acquired Deep Spring Water. Charlie then became a partner of Summit Container Corporation where he was V.P. of Manufacturing until his retirement in 2009.

Charlie met his beloved wife, Carol Bughman, at Comiskey Park Ice Rink in Dubuque, Iowa. They went on to have 5 children: Mary Shelton (Marcus), Nancy Johnson (Bob), Charles R. Johnson (Bonnie), David Johnson, and Anne Johnson Struble (Steve). Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive him. He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Charlie loved spending time with his family. He loved summer vacations in Minnesota, fishing with his grandkids, reading a good book and as a licensed pilot, flying for relaxation.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2030 W. Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904 at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022. Please join the Johnson Family for a small reception in the parish center following the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or The Place (a charitable outreach program serving the homeless youth in Colorado Springs), 423 E. Cucharras Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
