Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Chong Fugate, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her home, on November 25, 2023 after battling multiple health issues over the past few years.
She was born on July 27, 1941 in Korea and married her love, Walter Fugate, on January 6, 1962. After living in Germany and Oklahoma, they made Colorado their home in 1973 and raised their three children in the same home she passed in.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, her parents and two sisters. She is survived by her children: Tae (Jeannette), Sandra, Steven (Kelly); grandchildren: Danielle (Leon), Zachary, Tylar, Tara, Tori, Jacob and Rachel; and great-grandchildren: Mariah and Cassius.
She loved to fish and work on her garden, but not more than being around her family and all the extended family and friends over the years. Even as her health started to decline, she still enjoyed having everyone around her kitchen table.
Chong’s celebration of life will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 10:00 am at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. An intimate reception will follow the service in a banquet room at Patty Jewett Golf Course, 900 E. Espanola St., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
Our lives are better for knowing and loving our matriarch. We will love you always and forever.
