We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother Constance (Connie) Therese (Schauf) Johnson. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 30, 2022.  She was born December 14, 1929, to Otto and Beth (Schaefer) Schauf in Sparta, Wisconsin, she was the oldest of 10. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1948 and then went on to nursing school. After graduating from St Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse, WI, she made the bold move to Colorado Springs where the then Camp Carson was in desperate need of nurses.  It was there that she met the love of her life, “Sam” Floyd Eugene Johnson.  They were married June 9, 1953 and spent the next 58 years together until his passing.  She spent most of her nursing career at Terrace Gardens Nursing Center caring for the elderly where she rose to become the Director of Nursing. During retirement she discovered a love for painting, which unbeknownst to us and especially her, she was quite good at. She graciously shared these beautiful paintings with friends and loved ones. She was very devoted to her faith and spent countless hours helping at Holy Family Catholic Church. Later, she served at St. Dominic Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and surrogate mother to priests and parishioners alike.
She is preceded in death by a baby daughter, her beloved husband Sam, grandson Bennit Johnson, sister Cathy, brothers Dick & Chuck, and her adopted “son” Fr. Bill Carmody. This Obituary Has 3 Condolences

  1. Your mom was a wonderful friend to our family, so kind and generous, we are privileged to have known her

  2. Connie had a special way with everyone she met. She will be missed very much at St.Dominic. Deepest sympathy to her family.

  3. I loved her very much. She gave me one of her paintings of the Blessed Mother and baby Jesus. It hangs in my office and I think of her every time I look at it. May the angels gather her to heaven.
