October 7, 1936 – November 11, 2021

Ted passed away suddenly into the arms of God with his family by his side at the age of 85.

Ted met his wife, Gisela Baumann, in Nuremberg, Germany where they married. They were together for 64 years. He was born in Blytheville, AR and his early years were spent working on the family cotton field in Hornersville, MO. He enlisted in the Army in 1953 at the age of 17 where he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and so it was apt that he passed away on Veteran’s Day.

After his retirement from the military in 1974, he owned and operated 5 successful Amoco and Conoco stations throughout Colorado Springs for 25 years. Ted enjoyed history, watching baseball, and his occasional outings to Cripple Creek. He spent time watching westerns and anything to do with his Native American heritage.

Ted was a remarkable man and mentor to many family and friends.  He lived his life with integrity, honesty, compassion and humor. Heaven gained a beautiful soul. We will embrace and cherish the memories that will endure in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Etta Hemphill, his brothers Jerry, Walter and Billie Joe Hemphill, and two sisters Bobby Joyce and Alice Marie Hemphill. Ted is survived by his loving and caring wife, Gisela Hemphill, his daughter Brenda Adams, his son Dwayne Hemphill (Carmen), his grandchildren, Tyler Hemphill (Danielle), Morgan Hemphill, Rachel Adams and Ariel Adams (Tyler Lowe) and his brothers Larry and Carl Hemphill. He is the great grandfather to Theo Hemphill and will soon receive another great grandchild in June.

The service with full Military Honors will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11am at Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80906. Reception to follow downstairs in the Church.

Masks are required.
