A splash of sunshine has returned to the heavens. Eva Ruth Hempel, born July 19, 1940, in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Clyde Widders and Virginia Barron, passed away September 9, 2023. They say baby Eva raised up on her arms and laughed upon being born. Her love of life continued, exhibited through her charm and desire to bring happiness to all, filling the hearts of all who knew her.

How do we thank Eva for all she brought into our lives? A lady who brought a smile to all and asked for nothing in return. A strong woman who was fully and completely devoted to her family. A fun-loving beauty who shared her genuine joy and had a song to fit every occasion. A deeply spiritual woman who believed in the Lord and believed in honoring His glory. We are so deeply grateful and feel incredibly blessed.

Eva adored her family, and we will miss her even more. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Laurette Cardillo; son-in-law, Pete Cardillo; granddaughters: Meghan Harris (William) and Katie Gray (Codey); great-granddaughters: Olivia and Aubrey; brothers, Jack Clay and Michael Widders; sisters: Jennifer (Terry) Woodall, Beverly Moore, and Linda Lucky; and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Judy Kaufman; brothers: Joe Clay and Patrick Widders; brother-in-law, Dave Moore; and her soul mate and husband of 52 years, Clare Hempel.

We love you, Eva, with all our hearts. Our world will not be the same without you. Angels in Heaven must be excited for their new vibrant and wonderful addition. We are thrilled to know that you are reunited with your hubby, the absolute love of your life. You have an amazing journey ahead together in heaven.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Shrine of Remembrance, “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.

The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Pikes Peak Hospice for their excellent care. Please consider a donation to this wonderful organization at pikespeakhospice.org.
