We are sad to announce the death of Frank E. Armstrong, age 98, who passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs on October 3, 2022.  Frank enjoyed 42 years of Federal service, including 22 with the USAF and 20 as a civil employee.  He enjoyed telling stories about his adventures in Alaska, Japan, Germany and France.  Of particular note were his duties during the Berlin Airlift, where he supervised crews of German POW’s in plane maintenance (giving him the opportunity to perfect his German language skills).  He also loved tent camping all over Europe with his kids, Peg and Mike.   He was grateful to be selected as a participant in the Honor Flight program for veterans, and the trip to Washington, DC was a fond memory.  He could tell stories about his life with perfect clarity.

Well into his 80’s he still could bowl a 240 game, and enjoyed playing billiards and darts.  He married his beloved wife, Margaret Howard, on February 11, 1952.  Following her death in 1995, he was fortunate to find new love with DonnaMarie Edwards, and they married on April 25, 1998.  Frank is survived by his wife, DonnaMarie, his son Michael (Diane), his daughter Darla Nowosatko, and enjoyed the role of loving grandpa to a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Frank’s words of wisdom were, “If you don’t sit down, old age can’t catch up with you.”  And he lived that every day.  But his friends and family will tell you that he had also mastered the art of the power nap!

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, 1730 East Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO.  Reception immediately following at the Olympian Plaza Reception Center, 975 South Union.
