Franklin H. Schmidt – May 23, 2026

Frank, age 92, passed away on May 23, 2026. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for 72 years and was formerly a resident of Eaton, Ohio. His main occupation was civil service at Ent AFB, Peterson AFB, and Fort Carson.

Frank was born on January 4, 1934, to Lewis Schmidt and Ollie Schmidt (Eikenberry) in Ohio.  He graduated high school in Eaton, Ohio and then attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he played offensive guard for the football team. On December 29, 1957, he married Jo Ann Sweetser in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Frank was an avid beekeeper for over 40 years and owned his company, Schmidt Apiaries. Other hobbies included auto racing, water skiing, and woodworking. Frank also owned and operated Home Appliance Store and ran his own appliance repair business. Frank also owned the Pikes Peak Farmers Market and markets in Old Colorado City at Bancroft Park and, in past years, Memorial Park, Acacia Park, Doherty High School, and Monument.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Schmidt) Piano, son-in-law, Richard Piano, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jo Ann, who passed away in 2009.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Frank’s name can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
