Guyla Mae Taylor, 86, passed away on December 19, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her early life was spent in Kansas where she was born to Granville and Violet Edmonston.  She met her husband, Bernard “Skeets” Taylor, there and they were married in 1958.  Guyla completed her nursing training and traveled with Skeets while he served in the USAF.  She used her training working in hospitals and completed her career as the nurse for a private practice physician where the couple settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Guyla and Skeets enjoyed traveling together.  They celebrated a milestone wedding anniversary in Hawaii, took a WWII tour overseas, and often made short trips with a square dance club.  Dr. Zimmerman, also a pilot, flew them to Alaska for another fun adventure. Of course, they willingly traveled to see their kids and grandkids as often as they could.

Guyla had many hobbies over the years.  She collected the traditional Kansas windmills, she created cards and gifts with rubber stamping, and she really loved her gardens.

While Guyla had a heart to help and care for many, she was especially dedicated to her family.  That family also included her constant canine companion, Suki, who has now joyfully joined Barb’s family.

She is survived by two daughters; Brenda Taylor living in Las Vegas, and Barbara (Mark) Keglovits living in Indianapolis; and 4 grandchildren. Guyla is preceded in death by her husband; son, Barry; parents; sister Kathy; and brother, Loyal.

A Visitation will be held at 1:00PM, with a Funeral Service at 2:00PM, followed by a Cryptside Service on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.

In consideration for the family, cards are requested in lieu of flowers.

  6. It was a joy to have known Guyla for the many years that I worked for her and Skeets. She was kind and generous and always treated me like family. She will be missed! May the family find peace and comfort as they remember the joy she spread to others!

  7. Guyla sent me some of her handmade cards and I saved every one. I sent her a letter on January 8 and it came back to me today, January 30, with “Send back to sender.” I went to the internet to see if I could find her address and instead there were her photo and obituary. Would love to send a card to the family. My sister Nancy and husband Rich, and I visited her and Skeets at their home in Colorado Springs probably four to six years ago and Norma came down to visit all of us. A lovely lady and friend.
