Iris Jean Smith, age 88, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026. She was born on October 11, 1937, in Billings, Montana to Lloyd Carmony and Glada (Simon).
Iris built a life centered on family, friendship, and service to her community. She spent many years working for the El Paso County Department of Social Services, where she retired after a dedicated career. Even after retirement, she continued working at the World Arena and the Pikes Peak Center, where she enjoyed meeting people and staying active.
She was a proud member of Order of the Eastern Star #155 and valued the friendships it brought to her life.
Iris found joy in the simple things. She loved spending time on the golf course and rarely missed cheering on her favorite teams, the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Avalanche.
More than anything, Iris cherished her family. She is survived by her three daughters, Shelley Doom (John), Lissa Cochrane, and Janien Ruybal (Ermand); her five grandchildren; and her five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great pride and happiness.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers.
Iris will be remembered for her caring heart, quiet strength, and the love she shared with her family and friends. She leaves behind many cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
There will be a Memorial Service on August 11, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
