Janice L. Bruner passed away September 8th, 2026. She was born in Colorado Springs on April 3rd, 1941, to parents Edwin and Albe Perschbacher.
Jan is survived by her husband and best friend, Silas Bruner, of 50 years. Daughter, Joanne Tyrrell; Grandchildren, Sara Tyrrell, Tyler Tyrrell, and his wife, Hannah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Albe Perschbacher and her Stepmother, Helen Perschbacher. Also, her brothers, Edwin Perschbacher and Donald Perschbacher.
Jan was a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs where she graduated from Palmer High School in 1958. Her post-high school education included the Jack Spires School of Realty where she earned her Real Estate license. She completed her accounting education at a local Business School.
Jan worked for Harrison School District 2 in various positions. She began her career as a Clerk and Secretary at Harrison High School in 1971 then transferred to the Administration Office in 1975 and worked as a Secretary and Accounting Clerk. Jan later transferred back to Harrison High School and worked as the Principal’s Secretary and Bookkeeper until Sierra High School opened in 1984. She finished her career as the Principal’s Secretary at Sierra High School in 1995 when she retired.
Jan continued her service to District 2 as a member of the Board of Education for two terms. She worked tirelessly to ensure students were always first in the distribution of educational funds. Jan adamantly believed all students should have a textbook in an age when schools were trying to phase out books in the classroom. She worked hard to make sure teachers were compensated for the endless work they provided to students.
Jan was an avid reader of all books about the Holocaust and WWII, Egyptian Queens, Pharaohs and Archaeology. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, flower arranging, and decorating the home she shared with Silas, she especially loved decorating at Christmas time. She took pride in her yard to ensure the flowers were flourishing throughout the Spring and Summer months. She loved to preserve the fruits and vegetables from her and her husband’s garden; she also made delicious jams and jellies. Jan loved taking rides in the mountains to see the fall foliage and learning the history of Cripple Creek and Victor. In later years, she loved driving around Memorial Park to view one of her favorite birds, the Canadian Geese. Riding through Garden of the Gods was another favorite pastime of theirs. Jan’s compassion for animals was always felt in her daily life. She never met an animal she didn’t like. Jan and her loving husband, Silas, had two Irish Setters who brought them joy. They currently have two Mini Dachshunds, Chelsea and Cyndyl, and her cat “Little Paws”. Another evident testament of her love for animals was caring for three feral cats, Tux, Shadow, and Callie. Her favorite music included Classic Western, the 50’s Rock and Roll, and New Age with her favorite artist being Yanni.
Jan always looked amazing; her hair and makeup were impeccable every day, and she always dressed to the Nines, especially when enjoying brunch with her family at her favorite place, The Cheyenne Mountain Conference Center.
Direct cremation and private services are planned for the family.
