Jean Evelyn Bickford (McMannus), 77, passed away on July 9, 2026. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 46 years and was formerly a resident of Bangor, Maine. She was a retired event coordinator for the Association of Graduates at the United States Air Force Academy.
Jean was born on December 18, 1948, to Hubert and Maxine (Cole) McMannus in Waterville, Maine.
Jean attended Hampden Academy High School and graduated in 1967. Jean was very happy during her time at the Air Force Academy, first as a bartender at the Officers’ Club and later as the event coordinator at the AOG. She was an avid reader and would check out 7 to 10 books per week and read them all.
Jean is survived by her children: daughter, Lisa Carter and her husband James Carter; son, Michael Smith and his wife Deidre Deane; her grandchildren: Joseph Smith, Timothy Amerson II, Marcus McMannus and Kaius Smith; great-grandchildren: Maylani Amerson, Timothy Amerson III, Odin McMannus and Dalton Amerson; her siblings: brother, Arthur McMannus; brother, David McMannus-Potenza and his husband Sam McMannus-Potenza; sister Cathy Hart and her husband Donald Hart; and sister Carol McMannus; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
It was Jean’s wish to have no formal services. A private memorial service for family and friends will be held in the future.
