Joan, age 86, passed away on February 12, 2021.  Joan was born on March 2, 1934 to George Zidlick and Mary (Lockhart) Zidlick in New Brunswick, NJ. On 12 November, 1953 she married Eric H. Bolz Jr, of Cicero, Illinois who was serving in the US Army at Ft. Monmouth, NJ. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1961, when she and Eric were transferred from Germany to Ft. Carson.

Joan worked with Eric at AOK Vending until they sold the business. Joan’s hobbies were music, gardening and cats. She had been the choir director for Faith Lutheran and Prince of Peace Lutheran churches. She referred to herself as the “No.1 Cat Lady.”

Joan is survived by two sons: Dwight David (Kathleen) 140 Berwick Ct. Easley, SC 29642, and Jonathan Rand;  one grandson, Ryan Thomas Bolz (Cassandra); and two great grandchildren, Marisol and Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric; her son, Jeffrey; and her sister, Hazel.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be held at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910

  1. Goodbye, my dear friend, Until we meet again. Over many years you were always caring and welcoming to me. I will always remember your friendship. I am so glad that you are free to do and be and enjoy all the many activities that you loved. I will miss you.

  2. My name is Thomas Earle. Joan and I worked together for many years and she taught me a lot. We worked at the Prince of Peace Lutheran church. I will miss her a lot – I used to go visit her many times at her home, but didn’t after she lost her husband. Me and my wife, Margaret, will remember her in our prayers.
