November 14, 1947 – December 19, 2021

John Richard Zentz, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1987, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021.

John was born on November 14, 1947 to John and Lucille (Stallsmith) Zentz in Baxter Springs, Kansas.  He grew up in Kansas and proudly served his country in the United States Army for 24 years.  He married his soul mate Micha Hong in 1982.  Due to his military service they travelled the world before settling down and raising a family.

John loved crossword puzzles and was also a huge sports fan.  He was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed the March Madness college basketball tournament.  He also enjoyed high school football and basketball. He attended as many games as he could in support of his favorite local high school team. He loved talking to people, making small talk with anyone, anywhere.  Most of all he loved his family, being a loyal, hardworking husband.  He was also a selfless, supportive and patient father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Micha; his three daughters: Michele Rodriguez, Esther Gerhardt, and Jennifer Allen-Sturgeon; and six grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd.  Interment will then take place at noon at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be made to The American Cancer Society or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
