John Sheldon Jones, Jr., 82, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2026, surrounded by his family, following a brief battle with cancer.
Born on December 19, 1943, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, he was the son of Roberta Moore and John Sheldon Jones, Sr. He joined the Navy and became a medic, later went on to graduate from Cal State Hayward and went on to build a fulfilling career as a software engineer programming satellites.
Known to many simply as Sheldon, he was a deeply dedicated husband, father, neighbor, and friend. He found great joy in writing science fiction novels, reading, and was profoundly committed to serving the Baha’i Faith.
Sheldon is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Eileen Jones; his daughter, Maria Rickard, and her husband, Andrew; and his grandson, Kemper Rickard. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors and community. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs, followed by a graveside service with military honors at 12:00 p.m. at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
