Katherine Melinda Hanson (Silvis), age 37, passed away May 2, 2023.  She was a resident of Security/Widefield for 34 years. She was a Librarian Assistant at Security Public Library, serving in the Children’s Reading Room and managing the teen program for the last 6 years.

Katy was born on Aug 29, 1985, to Thomas A. Silvis and Janet L. Silvis at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. On May 29, 2010, she married Richard H. Hanson in Colorado Springs.

Katy loved books, particularly children’s books and pop-up books. She also enjoyed making arts and crafts and was a very talented cake decorator.  One of Katy’s favorite games was to hum a random song and wait to see how many people started humming after.

She was a member of Charis Christian Center.  She had previously graduated from UCCS and was actively attending San Jose State University pursuing her master’s degree in library science.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; their beautiful children: Benjamin (6) and Leam (2); her parents: Thomas and Janet; her sisters: Pamella and Jennifer; a whole community of friends and adopted extended family.

A visitation will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance on Monday, May 15, 2023, between 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.  A funeral service will be held the following morning, May 16, 2023, at Charis Christian Center at 10:00 am, 10285 Federal Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the family can be made to the Katherine Hanson Memorial Fund or to Richard Hanson directly through PayPal. This Obituary Has 2 Condolences

  1. Richard, Benjamin. and Leam, our family is so very sorry to hear of the tremendous loss of Katy! She was a beautiful, caring, kind, and encouraging lady. We knew her through the library as we were there often due to homeschooling. She always helped us find the resources we needed and at times even ordered new books if they weren’t available. Our son is deaf and Katy always took the time to listen to him share about what he was learning or hoped to learn. May the Lord comfort each of you as you grieve her passing. We will be praying for you!

  2. We knew Katy when she was a little baby while attending Living Waters church in Security (1985). We watched you grow from infant to a young lady. Our little sister in the Lord. The last time I saw you is when you worked at JC Penney in the Citadel mall. You will be missed dearly but now you are in a better place. Death is a part of life. We all must face it. I know I will see you again in heaven worshipping the Lord like always and forever. It was a joy watching you grow up spiritually. May God continue to bless your immediate family and comfort them in their mourning. ❤️
