Kenneth Francis Duran, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and son, passed away on October 19, 2026 while watching his Colorado Avalanche.
Ken was born February 22, 1940 in Alamosa, Colorado as a proud fifth generation Colorado native. He and his parents moved to Denver in 1950 where they lived next to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and he was the on-call altar server for the parish. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1958 and went on to study at St. Louis University. He returned to Denver and began working in the developing electronic industry as a maintenance technician.
In 1964, Ken married Theresa R. Perrier of Olpe, Kansas at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Denver. They made their home in Colorado Springs for all 60 years of their marriage where he worked and retired from Ampex Corporation.
He enjoyed reading, square dancing, woodturning, gardening, crewing hot-air balloons, and most especially, traveling around the United States to experience its natural beauty and history. From Alaska to Maine to Hawaii to Washington, DC to California and everywhere in between, he visited many, many states and the national parks, monuments, and sites along the way.
Ken joins his wife, Theresa, and parents, Luis and Consuelo (Romero) Duran with Christ. Left behind to share memories of times spent together and laughter shared is son, Chris Duran of Colorado Springs; daughter, Michelle Selig (John) of Colorado Springs; daughter, Brenda Bizzell (Ed) of Wellington, CO; and his pride and joy, his grandchildren: Jerome Selig (Alexandra) of Bangkok, Thailand, Father Zachary Selig of the Diocese of Pueblo in Lamar, CO, and Alexander Bizzell of Wellington, CO; and many, many friends, especially those at Winslow Court Retirement Community.
On Monday, November 2, 2026, a Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM before a Mass of Christian Burial at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 N. Logan Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. A luncheon will be served at the church immediately after Mass. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Olpe, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you watch a Colorado Avalanche or Denver Broncos game, eat something with blueberries in it, and/or make a donation in his memory to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo at https://www.cmzoo.org/support/ or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=header-btn-donate-now.
