Lawrence Eugene Mullins, Jr. “Larry, Jr.” of Colorado Springs, Colorado and formally Rantoul, Illinois passed away on May 20, 2023 at the age of 50 due to liver failure.  

Larry, Jr. was born on March 28, 1973 in Danville, Illinois to Lawrence “Larry”, Sr. and Janice (Smith) Mullins. At the age of three, the family moved to Rantoul, Illinois where he attended Eastlawn Elementary School and JW Eater Jr. High School.  He was a standout athlete at Rantoul Township High School earning a football scholarship to Southern Illinois University.  An all-conference lineman and captain of the Saluki football team, Larry, Jr. was also a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

After graduating with a degree from SIU in 1996, Larry, Jr. had a lengthy career in the corporate security and fire alarm business focusing primarily on the government sector in Colorado and Texas. He was also the owner of his own gunsmith and customized firearms business with clientele in the special forces of our military.

Larry, Jr. was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his beloved children Mallory (15) and Mason (13), watching the kids play basketball/baseball and many other activities, and was an active supporter of wildlife and wolf conservation. He cherished his many friendships, so many of which were life-long connections and could always to counted upon to share a laugh.  

Larry, Jr. is survived by his parents Larry and Janice Mullins; his children, Mallory and Mason Mullins; and his sister, Nancy Hixson; brother-in-law, Geoff; and nieces, Avery and Bryce; and his favorite buddy, Rocky, his black lab. 

A Memorial Service in honor of Larry, Jr. will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.  

A Celebration of Life is being planned in July in Rantoul, Illinois. Those arrangements will be shared once finalized.
