Leander “Lee” Harrington
March 29, 1951 – March 22, 2026
Leander “Lee” Harrington – a devoted husband, a committed father, an energetic grandfather, and a man of God – passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026.
Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to James and Lizzatte Harrington, Lee grew up in Newark, New Jersey, graduating from Arts High School in 1969. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in Germany in 1970, Lee met the love of his life, Monika Lau. They were married on June 19, 1972, the start of 53 beautiful years together.
Lee dedicated 23 years to the Air Force in the meteorological navigation systems and communications computer systems fields. Following his military retirement, he tested for and earned his commercial driver’s license. He spent over two decades driving commercial trucks over-the-road and locally. A man who couldn’t sit still for long, Lee famously “retired” three different times before finally settling into full retirement.
Lee not only served his country, but he also served his community. He loved God and his church. He faithfully attended church on Sundays and was part of the cart team, cheerfully welcoming attendees every Sunday. He had a heart of gold, supporting several outreach organizations, to help others. Lee read and studied his Bible. He strived to be a Light to others and to be a faithful servant.
As a father, Lee was the greatest teacher. He emphasized the value of education and the importance of a job well done. He didn’t just hear you, but truly listened. He was a gentle soul that only wanted the best for his family. We will forever miss our conversations.
Lee had a special bond with each of his grandchildren. They adored him! He was so proud of them and they were the center of his world! He never missed an opportunity to spend time with them whether through phone calls, cheering at their competitions, grandpa dates or school events. When he wasn’t spoiling them, he could be found tinkering with his cars.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Allen Harrington; and his sister, Carrmay Baker. His legacy lives on through his wife, Monika Harrington; his daughters, Barbara Buckhalter (husband Terrence) and Deborah Pryor (husband Mike); his son, Michael Harrington; and his cherished grandchildren: Riley, Neveah, Kemar’e, Jazlyn, TJ, Cleo, and Quentin.
A celebration of Lee’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80910.
In honor of Lee’s lifelong commitment to hard work and service, memorial contributions may be made in his name tothe Tunnels to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org/).
