Martha Catherine Goddard, age 98, died August 4, 2026 in Colorado Springs.
Catherine, as she liked to be called, was the daughter of Leonard Aaron and Jessie Lee (Wootten) Reynolds. She was born and raised in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Horace Mann High School and attended Oklahoma Junior College both in Okmulgee. Catherine also attended the Draughen’s Business Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Once she returned home, she met the love of her life, Delos Reckards Goddard. They married on June 6, 1948 in Butler Methodist Church where her family had long been active members. The couple were the parents of three children, Linda, Edwin, and Norma. She thoroughly loved being a housewife, den mother, school volunteer and anything that involved her family. She enjoyed playing bridge, camping, sewing and always had the house filled with various craft projects.
The family was kept on the move while Delos worked and went back to school. They lived in Great Bend, Kansas; Otis, Kansas; Shiprock, New Mexico; Amarillo, Texas; Austin, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Arvada, Colorado; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Apache Junction, Arizona; Mesa, Arizona; Cripple Creek, Colorado and Buena Vista, Colorado before moving back to Colorado Springs.
Catherine worked several jobs including as a clerk in a dime store, as a typist for The Boys Ranch Foundation and as a receptionist for an auto dealership. In 1957, Catherine started working at The Army Reserve Center in Austin to help support her family while Delos attended the University of Texas. One of her last tasks while at this job was to track down a Purple Heart recipient so he could receive his well-deserved medal. After Delos retired in 1975, they moved to Cripple Creek where a part-time job in the summer tourist industry turned into a full-time management position of The Trego Emporium Store and Lodging.
Catherine and her family spent many vacations traveling about the country. Sometimes a tent, a couple of sleeping bags and a camp stove were all they needed to head out on their next adventure. Before her husband’s death the two of them managed to visit all 50 states of the United States plus Canada and Mexico.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Jessie Reynolds, her daughter, Linda Avram in 1987 and her husband, Delos Goddard in 2014. Also preceding her were her brother, Leonard Reynolds, brother-in-law, Max Casselman, and sister-in-law, Wanetca Reynolds.
She is survived by her son, Edwin Goddard of Golden, Colorado, her daughter, Norma Levi (Bob) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, her brother, John Reynolds of Friendswood, Texas, her sister-in-law, Madge Casselman of Arlington, Texas, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80916. With a viewing starting one hour prior to the service. She will be privately entombed with her late husband at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.
