
Mary Elizabeth Meadows Foster, 97 years old, passed away on April 2, 2026. She was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for 64 years and was formally a resident of West Palm Beach, Florida. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Mary was born on January 11, 1929, to Nolan Miller, in West Palm Beach, FL. On November 3, 1953. She united in holy matrimony with the late Sergeant Jopin Foster. She graduated from Industrial High School of Palm Beach County, FL in June 1948. In 1962, after being stationed in several locations with her husband, they settled in Colorado Springs, CO. Soon after settling in the Springs, Mary became a widow with four young children. Having to support her family, Mary graduated from nursing school in 1965 as an LPN, after which she worked in the emergency room of St. Francis Hospital until she retired. Mary remained in Colorado Springs raising her four young children with the support of her extended family, her church family, and community.
Mary was fond of spending time with family, gardening and traveling. She also enjoyed beating her nieces and nephews in Rummy and Spades which came with lots of trash talking. She had an appreciation for dancing at Hillside Community Center, with other seniors, and she was also a member of the Savvy Seniors of Hillside community. Mary was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church where she served as an usher for many years.
Loving memories will always be cherished in the hearts her son, Joseph O. Foster (Constance); two daughters, René Y. Foster and Frederica L. Brewer (Brett); grandchildren: Carlos E. Foster, Jr. (Miranda), Terika N. Brewer (Rashad), Joseph C. Foster, Bridgett A. Esuruoso (Michael); great grandchildren: Malichai Stewart, Micah Mills, Carlos ,III, Dwayne , Caden Foster, Avinell(Nell) and Michael, Jr. Esuruoso; brothers: Ovid A. (Billy) Miller, Samuel N. Gibson, Donald D. Gibson(Pearline), Ronald C. Gibson (Sophia), Thomas D. Gibson; sisters: Frances J. Gibson, Audrey R. Clayton, Tunis O. Turnquest, and Carolyn L. Washington; last first cousin, Rodderick Orange; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and church members.
She was preceded in death by her son, Carlos E. Foster, Sr.; granddaughter, Yolanda J. Brewer; brothers: Henry N. Ferguson, Gratlin E. Gibson, Robert O. Gibson (Dean), Alfred S. Gibson and Arnold S. Gibson; and sisters, Catherine J. Anderson (Walker), Elrock N. Butler
A visitation will be held from 5 pm to7 pm on Thursday April 23, 2026, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. A funeral service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church 633 E. Dale St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903. A repast will be held at the church immediately following the funeral service.
