Mary Sue Johnson – August 22, 2026

Mary Sue Johnson left this life on August 22, 2026.

She was born on December 21, 1937, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Charles Montelle Johnson and Elinor Pearl Johnson.

She was predeceased by her parents and Henry Male, her longtime partner, Phyllis Okulitz and Robert James Johnson Jr, as well as many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her cousins, Melanie Johnson Lee Curtis, Karen Johnson Oetken, Joyce Johnson Hancock, Douglas Robert Johnson, and Melanie Johnson Dezelek; and her dear friends, Mary Alderman and Andrew Smith.

Mary Sue received her BS and MA at University of Ohio and Columbia University. She taught high school and went on to have a career at NBC as Financial Advisor for budget and payroll.

She loved Sweet Adelines singing and was a member of Ramapo Valley group. When Henry and Mary Sue retired, they decided to go west to Colorado Springs where they settled into a home with a much-loved view of Pikes Peak.

Mary Sue and Henry had a special place in their hearts for their Basenji dogs, and the dogs went with them when they traveled. She loved the white sand and blue-green waters of the Gulf in Pensacola and made many trips there to visit her Uncle Bob and Aunt Joyce Johnson. Blue-green became her favorite color.

Special thanks to the staff at Brookdale, Tammy Sikes, Bruce Larsen, Amanda Quesada, John Stinar, Tory Barcus, and Erin McGaven.
