Mildred Thompkins – January 16, 2026

Mildred Thompkins, 90, sadly passed away on January 16, 2026. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for well over 50 years and formerly resided in Augusta, GA. Mildred was a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Mildred was born on August 6, 1935 to Tommy Mills and Frances (Tompkins) (Mills) in Augusta, GA. On August 23, 1953 she married Richard Thompkins in Akin, South Carolina).

Mildred (Tommy) was fond of crocheting and traveling. She was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mildred attended Lucy C Laney High School, and received her nursing certification from Sacramento City College. Mildred worked as a private nurse before working at Fort Carson Hospital in Labor and Delivery and retired after working for over twenty years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Richard Thompkins, their children: Richard Thompkins II (son) of Colorado Springs, Lawrence Edward Thompkins (son) of West Des Moines, and Carroll F. Thompkins-Reeves (daughter) of Delaware. Mildred is survived by five grandchildren: Richard Thompkins III, Megan E. Thompkins, Juan R. Powell, Alexander Thompkins, and Evan Thompkins. Mildred is also survived by nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mildred is survived by her sisters, Wilameania Powell-Simpson of Augusta, GA and Burnadette B. Howard of Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Mildred was preceded in death by mother Frances Thompkins Brown, Father Tommy Mills, Anthony Leon Thompkins (son), and Thomasina Mills (sister).

A visitation will be held January 28, 2026 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance funeral home. Funeral service will be held January 29, 2026 at 10 am at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Mildred will be inurned at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery.

A reception will be held following the inurnment at the Thompkins’ home.

    I am sorry your loss wife. My son and I really enjoying hang outing with Mildred and Richard in our Greenwood circle neighborhood area. She is amazing person.
