Retired Master Sgt. Mitchell L. Lewis, age 66, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mitchell was born November 12, 1955, in Greenwood, South Carolina to R.T. Antny and Willie Bell (Lewis) Antny.
 
He had three sisters: Gloria Davis of Sherwood, Arkansas, Cynthia Antny of Hodges, South Carolina, and Linda Gaskin of Greenwood, South Carolina; and four brothers: Richard Antny of Donalds, South Carolina, Bob Antny of Anderson, South Carolina, Derrell Antny and R.T. Antny Jr.
 
He attended Ware Shoals high school in South Carolina and upon graduation, he enlisted into the United States Air Force where he was then stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota from 1981-1983, Sembach, Germany from 1983-1985, Castle AFB, California from 1985-1990, Sicily, Italy from 1990-1991, RAF High Wycombe, United Kingdom from 1991-1993, Soesterberg, Netherlands 1993-1994, Beale AFB, California from 1994-1998 and Hurlburt Field AFB, Florida from 1998-2006. Mitchell married Gertrude M. Yellow Eagle on March 6, 1982, whom he met while stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota and had three children, Derrick, Drysanna, and Mitchell Jr.
 
Mitchell retired from the United States Air Force on May 1, 2006, after serving for twenty-six years. In 2009, he started his second career with a government position at Schriever AFB, retiring on November 30, 2020.
 
Mitchell was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, always supporting and willing to give his time and energy to those he loved and only wanting to see everyone around him succeed, find happiness, and achieve their goals. He enjoyed outdoor activities, playing basketball, discussing sports and politics, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and being an active role model in the lives of his family.
 
Mitchell received his bachelor’s degree from Northwest Florida State College on May 6, 2009, and then received his master’s degree from Webster University on May 18, 2019.
 
Survivors include his wife: Gertrude Lewis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter: Drysanna Lewis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sons: Derrick Lewis of Merced, California, Mitchell Lewis Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; mother: Willie Bell Antny of Donalds, South Carolina; sisters: Gloria (Larry) Davis of Sherwood, Arkansas, Cynthia Antny of Hodges, South Carolina, Linda Gaskin of Greenwood, South Carolina; brothers: Richard Antny of Donalds, South Carolina, Bob Antny of Anderson, South Carolina; four grandchildren: Isaiah, Ananda, Gabriyel and Ariyel. He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers.
 
A viewing will be held at 5:00PM-7:00PM, Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado. A funeral service will be held at 2:30PM on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A reception will be held following the funeral service.
