Nels J. Hendrickson passed away on April 10, 2024. He was a longtime resident of Colorado Springs and formerly lived in the Chicago, IL area, as well as the Nashville, TN area. Nels was born on December 24, 1937 to Martin L. and Irene (Sipka) Hendrickson.
Nels worked as a purchasing agent for Sears, Roebuck and Co., as well as other organizations. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Geography, which further inspired his love of maps and world travel. Growing up in Chicago, the Railroad Capital of the US, fostered his interest in trains and train travel. Nels had a sharp wit which was only exceeded by his intelligence.
Nels is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judith; his son, Nels M. (Melanie); sister-in-law, Anita (Greg); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Alan and Robert.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nels’ name to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org)
