September 23, 1982 – March 10, 2022

Nick Ezekiel Chavarria III, age 39, passed away March 10, 2022, in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born September 23, 1982, in Salinas, California to Nick Jr. and Cynthia (Martinez) Chavarria.

Nick graduated from Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs.  He was resident of Colorado Springs from 2000-2010 and of Salinas, CA from 2010 to 2021.

Nick worked for many years as a butcher at various Safeway and King Soopers grocery stores in Colorado Springs.  He was head butcher at one of his stores and manager of the Deli department at another.  He loved to cook for his many friends and for family and aspired above all else to become a great, professional chef.

He also loved listening to music and writing.  He particularly enjoyed writing poetry and recipes.

Nick led an inspirational life in that he was a heart transplant recipient and successfully overcame many serious health challenges that he faced in his short life.

He is survived by his father and mother, Nick Jr. and Susanne Chavarria; brother, Raul Anthony Leal, Jr.; 2 sisters, Christine Leal and Mandy Burns; nephew, Raul Anthony Leal; and niece, Cynthia Sherish Leal.

He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Cynthia, and his grandparents, Nick and Ernestina Chavarria and Richard and Naomi Garcia.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, April 11, 2022, at the Shrine of Remembrance America the Beautiful chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Song of Mary Columbarium.  A celebration of life reception at Hillside Gardens & Event Center, 1006 S. Institute Street will follow the memorial service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Nick’s memory to the American Heart Association.

  3. My sympathy and prayers to Chris and family. I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Nick, but from what everyone who did says, he was a good guy. Our hearts grieve for those we’ve lost. Especially, when it was too soon.

    I find they rather line up with discpriptives for fruit of the spirit of one that walks with the Holy Spirit. Many will understand of what I speak. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
