Rachel Helen Joyce Platschorre – July 14, 2026

R.H. Joyce Platschorre, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on July 14th, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 89 years and formerly of Pascola, Missouri. Her family moved to Colorado Springs when she was 2 years old.

Born on January 7th, 1935, in Pascola, Missouri to Albert H. and Rachel (Vineyard) Kitchen- just 24 hours before Elvis Presley was born 185 miles away in Mississippi- Joyce brought her own unique rhythm, joy, and unforgettable spark to everyone who knew her. She was the youngest of 8 children. As a young girl, she attended Columbia Elementary School and North Junior High School. She met her future husband at a roller-skating rink in downtown Colorado Springs. She married Simon Leonard Platschorre on August 22, 1951, in Raton, New Mexico.

Joyce was fond of gardening. She also enjoyed reading. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Colorado Springs, for 77 years. She was a member of the choir for many of those years. In the 1990’s, she completed her GED as an adult and took some classes at Pikes Peak Community College. The one thing she enjoyed the most in life was talking to anyone she met. You may have been a stranger when you met, but it didn’t stay that way for long. She enjoyed her life in her condo, sitting in the lobby and talking to the other residents. She loved music and flowers, but most of all, she loved her family; they meant everything to her. Near and far, wherever they were, they were always in her heart.

Joyce is survived by her children, Stephanie (Tim) Holzberlein, Sheryl (Jerry) Sundee, and Susan (Joseph) Alberico; her grandchildren, January Fairfield, Jesse Alberico, Jennifer (Jonathan) McClintock, Rachel Cox, and Daniel Alberico; great-grandchildren, Anheyla Alberico, Alex Fairfield, Lennon Razal, Aaron Kowell, and Jacob McClintock, and her great-great-grandson, Ares Hendricks, as well as many more family and friends that meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, son Stephen, daughter Lynn Jo, and grandson Jeremiah Holzberlein, along with her parents, brothers and sisters, and many other extended family over the years.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026, at First Baptist Church Colorado Springs, 317 E. Kiowa St., Colorado Springs, CO 80904. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. She will be privately entombed at the Shrine of Remembrance with her late husband Leonard. A reception will be held following the funeral service in the basement of First Baptist Church, Colorado Springs, 317 E Kiowa St., Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
