Raquel A. Barron was born August 9, 1966. A proud and self-proclaimed “Leo” and Colorado native, with the heart and true spirit of that of a Mountain Lion! In her passing she was surrounded by her closest family members after a sudden and unexpected decline in health. Having lived with stage 4 rheumatoid arthritis for many years, she was a survivor and advocate for others battling its long-term effects. However, she never allowed her challenges to overcome her fighting spirit.

She is survived by her mother, Raquel O. Chavez, her four brothers, six sisters, and many beloved nieces and nephews!

To family, friends and anyone she met, she was a constant voice of strength, positivity, and inspiration, encouragement, and insight. One of her favorite sayings was, “Never stop learning, never stop teaching, and never give up!”

Raquel both loved and played many sports in her youth. She was a long-distance cyclist for many years, a home health caregiver, and was especially gifted at being the life of the party, as she was a DJ in the local community. She loved nature, she loved her Broncos, she loved to laugh and enjoy the moment, to help others believe in themselves, and she always left the porch light on for those who needed her.

It is difficult to encompass all of the amazing things Raquel embodied in mere words. She was a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and second mother to many. Her legacy in this world is imprinted on the hearts of so many, in this way she lives on forever. She is our Rok.

A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910, on Tuesday, March 5 at 2 PM followed by interment at 3 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

The family welcomes family and friends who knew and undoubtedly grew to love Raquel, near and far.
