Roxanne Lee Bridgewater, 79, passed quietly on July 4 in her home in Colorado Springs.
She is survived by her sister, Pat Pray (Jerry Kaullen); her nephews, Brian Pray (Cindy Ussery), and Gregory Holmes; her niece, Lisa Holmes, and grandnephew, Brandon Holmes.
Roxanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Bridgewater; her twin brother, Rory Holmes (Fran); her nephew, Tyler Pray (Paula); and her parents, Vern and Rose Holmes.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Rox earned her graduate and master’s degrees at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After teaching at McMillan Jr. High in Omaha for several years, and marrying Jay Bridgewater in 1974, they moved to Colorado Springs where Rox joined the staff at Palmer High School teaching Spanish and coaching the cheerleading squad. She also gained recognition at the high school playing the heroine in several melodrama productions there.
Roxanne loved “lakies”; Estes Park and the fall tree season; kickboxing; pedicures; jewelry; Kindle cozy mysteries; and most of all, her lunches with friends. She will be so missed by her family; her close friends Melanie and Paul Roberts and Mary Ann Piffarerio; her friend and long-time neighbor, Sarge Golden; and her many friends in her “Palmer” group, her “Farmers” group, and her “scrabble” groups.
A private interment is planned for October 15 at 2 pm at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs.
