Sidney Mack “Sid” Pruitt, lovingly known as “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away on August 4, 2026, leaving behind a family who adored him, a lifetime of cherished memories, and a legacy that will continue for generations.
Sidney was born on September 21, 1940, to Sidney Lee Pruitt and Ina Lou Smith. From the very beginning, family was an important part of who he was. He was a man of strong character, quiet strength, loyalty, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people he loved.
Sid proudly served in the United States Air Force, beginning a life marked by service, dedication, and commitment to others. Following his military service, he continued serving his community in local law enforcement before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). His years in the Air Force, law enforcement, and FBI were an important part of his life, and he often shared stories from those days with his family. Those stories—some serious, some funny, and all memorable have become part of the family history his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will carry with them for generations to come.
On August 31, 1967, Sid married the love of his life, Joan L. Pruitt. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family, faith, and love. Their marriage was a partnership that lasted nearly six decades.
Sid was a devoted husband and father. Dependable, protective, and steady, he was always someone his family could count on. Sid and Joan shared a special love of the outdoors. They enjoyed taking long drives through the mountains, searching for wildlife and photographing the beauty around them. Those trips were about much more than photography—they were about being together, enjoying quiet moments, and making memories that would last a lifetime.
He was the proud father of Michele Henning and her husband, Jeff, of Downingtown, PA; Michael Pruitt and his wife, Dani, of Parachute, CO; Shane Pruitt and his wife, Julie, of Colorado Springs, CO; and Amanda Pruitt of Colorado Springs, CO.
His greatest pride, however, may have been his role as Papa. He was a grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren. Each one held a special place in his heart and his love for them was evident in the stories he told, the time he spent with them, and the memories they created together.
Sid was a lifelong sports fan, with a particular love for the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Dodgers. He enjoyed watching his teams, following the games, and sharing his opinions about them—whether anyone asked for those opinions or not.
Sid also deeply valued the friendships he made throughout his life. Among the closest and most lasting was his friendship with Charlie Carrell, whom Sid considered not just a best friend, but more like a brother. Their bond brought Sid many years of laughter, meaningful conversations, and treasured memories.
To those who knew him best, Sid was more than a husband, father, grandfather, or friend. He was the person you could call. The person who would show up. The person who would help.
Sid was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan L. Pruitt; his parents, Sidney Lee Pruitt and Ina Lou Smith; and his sisters, LaVada Eubanks, Wanda Ramsey and Jimmie Wofford.
Losing Joan left a profound emptiness in Sid’s life. Their nearly six decades together were defined by enduring love, shared memories, and devotion through every season. The life they built together, and the family that grew from it, will remain one of Sid’s greatest legacies.
His family will remember his stories, his humor, his love of sports, his quiet strength, and the countless little things that made him who he was. Most of all, they will remember that he loved his family deeply and faithfully.
Sid was deeply loved. He was one of a kind. He will be missed every day, and his memory will live on in the family he loved so fiercely and in the generations who will carry his name, stories, and legacy forward.
